The 2010 San Diego Comic Convention is slated to bring us loads of Lord of the Rings collectibles and news! The Green Dragon is also THERE with our representative in Dragonspy Elendil, who is efforting to bring us daily reports of the comings and goings at this years show!! Be sure to tune in to THIS page for the latest and greatest in updates and news from the SDCC 2010!

Bookmark this page if you so desire, but it is directly linked from the main page above the Quote Rotator!! We plan to have news and updates from Weta, Sideshow, United Cutlery, and likely TONS more...here is to a great show and tons of new Lord of the Rings products!!

Report #5 (6 Aug 2010, 0730am) - TheGD/Elendil: The Sideshow Booth, from a Lord of the Rings perspective, was sort of a mixed bag. While Sideshow had a bunch of stuff on display, there was nothing NEW to be seen. The Morgul Lord Premium Format was on display and from the opinions of most people seeing it in person, it was a AWESOME SIGHT, despite the many complaints about pose and stance. Also on display was the Gandalf the Grey Premium Format...again very much lauded and praised for its sheer size and awesomeness...a TRUE representation of Gandalf!

Additionally, Sideshow had the Gandalf and Aragorn as Strider maquettes on display...and to say these were impressive is an understatement! the look of the Aragorn prototype is sheer beauty in person and the Gandalf likeness is spot-on! The appearance of the Gandalf Maquette has begun to sway many a collector to make the plunge with a pre-order for this Istari legend! Despite nothing NEW being presented in physical form, however, we did learn that Sideshow is developing the Gimli Maquette and a Mordor Orc Premium Format figure...so SOME news was good. Expect the Gimli, Boromir, and Arwen maquettes to be impressive! Thanks to Dragonspy Elendil not only for his attendance, but also his imagery!

Report #4 (4 Aug 2010, 1230pm) - TheGD/Elendil: The Weta Booth was teaming with activity the entire show! Dragonspy Elendil was able to snag a few shots of the items in the booth! Looks like the environments are well on their way to stardom as well as this now, not-so-mysterious, Gollum Statue (it has been shown that it is indeed a Weta Cave Exclusive with an Open Edition perhaps coming). Those environments sure look good!! As well as the new Rohan Shield!

Report #3 (2 Aug 2010, 0730am) - TheGD/Elendil: In heading to the SDCC 2010 this year, one of the things Dragonspy Elendil had on his plate was to do a short follow-up visit with Weta's Tim Launder! Not only did he pick up the prize package won recently by Dragonspy dtssyst, he also asked Weta's Tim some important questions regarding the upcoming Character's line as well as the pseudo mysterious Gollum Statue seen at the show!

TheGD: I see a new Gollum Figure! Is that the first of the new Character Line?
Weta Tim: Maybe. We haven't made a final decision about that, but it probably is not going to be part of that line. We made this piece because when people come to the Weta Cave, they see the large life-size Gollum and ask we have a Gollum piece to buy. This piece is for, not collectors, but for those who come to the Weta Cave and want that ONE piece to remember the trip by. It will probably be an Open Edition, though we haven't made a final decision on that yet. You should see it for sale on the site within 30 days. We also have another version of the statue available ONLY at the Weta Cave with a plaque and a small Weta climbing the base. It is for sale now.

TheGD: Do you have another other retail outlets?
Weta Tim: The Weta Cave is our first retail outlet.

TheGD: The One Ring is a Beautiful Piece. What can you tell me about it?
Weta Tim: This is the first time that the One Ring is available with a Stirling Silver chain that is the same length and with the exact same clasp as the Movie version. The Inscription is the Best quality that has been done. This piece was made in the same workshop as the Movie versions and is made by the son of the original artist. The piece you see here is a Production Piece.

TheGD: The new Rohan shield looks great. When will it be available?
Weta Tim: You should see this piece available within the next 30 days on our website.

TheGD: The Smaug piece designed by John Howe is much larger than it seemed. What can you tell me about this piece?
Weta Tim: This is the Production piece. What you see here is what is available to those who purchase it.

TheGD: Is there anything else you can tell us about upcoming LOTR products?
Weta Tim: All I can really say is that we have some great stuff coming up in the near future. Keep you ears open and watch the website for new product being added.

TheGD: Thank you very much for taking the time to answer a few more questions for The Green Dragon, we really appreciate it!
Weta Tim: Anytime, it has been my pleasure.

Report #2 (23 Jul 2010, 0730am) - TheGD/Elendil: Well...it seems that we may have jumped the gun a bit with the report that the first Character statue is indeed the Gollum statue shown yesterday. According to our very own Elendil, who is AT the show and has spoken with Tim Launder, the Weta Limited Manager, this Gollum is actually NOT part of the Characters line...or at least it was not INTENDED as such.

Elendil: What I can share is that the Gollum Statue, while cool, is most likely NOT part of the upcoming characters line. That is DIRECT from Tim Launder when I asked him about it. He said it MIGHT be, but most likely not. Also, it is most likley going to be an OPEN EDITION and you can get a WETA EXCLUSIVE version ONLY via the Weta Cave!

So...our FIRST report from our Green Dragon correspondent is officially IN THE BOOKS!! Thanks Elendil for the sneaksy exclusive information regarding the this cool new Weta Collectible!

Report #1 (20 Jul 2010, 730pm) - TheGD: WELCOME to The Green Dragon EXCLUSIVE Coverage of the 2010 San Diego Comic Convention! Updates will be posted everyday and probably MORE than once a day. Imagery will be included as needed to show off the event! Be sure to stay tuned for the upcoming Denizens of Middle-earth Feature celebrating the event and kicking off a great second half of 2010!!
